Brooklyn operates 15 women shelters. These shelters provide structured, supportive and a therapeutic atmosphere. The facilities are responsible for providing temporary housing, nutritious meals, and medical assistance.
In the month of October the Dorie Miller Post 213 Women Auxiliary provide a homemade meal for the Park Slope Women Shelter in Brooklyn. Several women made various soups. The soups were eaten with various crackers and breads. Our veteran service officer, Dr. Gloria Brown gave a short talk on the topic: The 17 Principals for Living Successful. Her emphasis was to motivate positive thinking in a negative world. The women served 50 to 60 women in transition.
A woman named, Marie Curie wrote these words" You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his own improvement and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity. Our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful."
We are thankful to Monet Pugh ( Assistant Recreation Coordinator) for her assistance in our efforts. We look forward to more times of serving and assisting women in transition.
